Fair Work Information Statements

When is this regulatory obligation required?

Employers must give every new employee one or more information statements when they start work.

All new employees must receive the Fair Work Information Statement, regardless of their employment type.

If the employee is:

  • a casual, they must also receive the Casual Employment Information Statement
  • employed for a fixed term, they must also receive the Fixed Term Contract Information Statement.

The Casual Employment Information Statement must also be provided at set times throughout an employee’s employment.

  • giving it personally to the employee
  • posting it to the employee
  • emailing it, or a direct electronic link, to the employee
  • faxing it to the employee
  • another method that meets the requirements.

It is recommended that the employer retain details of how the statement was provided to each employee.
